This is a video where I go undercover to join the International Association of Hyperpolyglots or HYPIA. I am a real polyglot, but I wanted to see how easy it would be to fake learn multiple languages and make a typical polyglot YouTube video about it.

Let's not gatekeep hobbies, but also lets not change the meaning of words because we want to feel better about ourselves. If you learn multiple languages at A1-A2 level, you are a language enthusiast, not a polyglot. I should know, I started 7 languages but I can only hold a conversation in two. I'm no polyglot, I just have ADHD.

It was crazy, I am a certified Monolingual Beta, but after watching this, I learned I understand Italian, Chinese, Swahili, Swedish, Bulgarian and Latin perfectly. Joe Linguistico is the greatest language tutor ever. I'm learning Proto-Indo-European now and expect to be fluent by the end of the summer.

I think what irritates people about "fake polyglots" is the appearance that they are NOT necessarily doing it for the love of languages but, rather, for clicks.

One of the cool things about English is that it has so many dialects, you can always pretend to be speaking on of them, Latin takes this idea to the extreme
