Creating virtual redirects for SRT by using a triple bowline in place of carabiners.

Update This concept is working for me but with the valuable feedback here I have found and made some changes that I think are safer and still gets me what I want in doing traverses and redirects in the tree with a very compact setup. 5.9mm PowerCord by Sterling Rope makes a good line, at 19k and in the basket configuratin I get a good safety factor. Also I am using Maillon Rapide Oval Quick Linkd to avoid the rope on rope isssue. Thanks ALL The Amsteel is dedicated to a pruning speedline now.

Thanks for the thought, when I tied it with a Yosemite it made an already bulky knot, really bulky and did not seem to add the security of what I was looking for.

Because it is slick, the issue to discover next is how well the knot can be removed. Because this is a triple bowline and is rather bulky to start with, I don't think it will be a problem under just the load of a climber. This line is rated at 7400#, light weight and 1/4", putting the loads it is capable of, with most knots, it would probably be difficult if not impossible to remove the knots, thus the spice only recommendation.

Talked to Samson about putting knots in Amsteel and they don't recommend it. I asked why and they said it is because the rope will loose strength, I said like the other ropes? is there any difference in the strength loss? No he said. It is just that this material is normally used in sling applications and high loads such as lifting and towing barges and such where knots would be a problem. Address the fact that the rope is abrasion resistant and coated, thus take measures such as stoppers

A good solution until I learn to trust the 3 loop bowline in this configuration and observe how much movement is generated, would be to put a biner in all three loops. It would be added hardware but probably worth the observation time. See if the knot is easy to release, slips at all, moves very much
One could always just tie a midline knot like a butterfly and use a biner, could not be any worse than other retrievable redirects. .

When thinking about the perspective of a manufacture they must think in terms of classifications and liability. I don't think they could classify this as a "climbing" line because of it size and structure nor would I ever climb with it, can't use it in mechanical devices, friction hitches won't perform well with it etc etc.
But it is knotable and does have the strength and attributes needed for this configuration.

Cool idea and to what axemeknot has to say, he is using a srt setup. No or very very low heat should be generated. About knotting it, no comments about that from me. I wouldn't know.

I have one question. Would backing the bowline's with a Yosemite tie off be an option instead of a figure eight? Seems like that would take less rope. It might be to bulky.

Cool video, I just don't see any practicality in it... When I get to the point where I need to set up such an elaborate redirect system, I will refer someone with a bucket truck...
