What’s Next For The Same-Sex Marriage Bill?

The same-sex marriage bill passed a key hurdle in the senate this week, winning bipartisan support to move forward. The senate will formerly vote on the bill after Thanksgiving, sending it to the house, which plans to pass the bill before the lame duck period ends. Representative Mondaire Jones joined American Voices with Alicia Menendez to discuss the bill.

Amendment 14 of the United State Constitution guarantees "equal protection of the laws" to all citizens. Anyone who works in government who can't or won't uphold the Constitution should find work in the private sector.

Federal legislation should, by law, be recognized by the individual states. The states should not be allowed to make their own rules otherwise what is the point in having a federal government?

If the 18-29 age group wants their inclusive ideology for all citizens and their climate change ambitions realized, they will have to increase their voter turnout from the anemic 27% it was in the midterms. Your policy choices don't automatically happen, you have to VOTE for leadership that will make it happen by enacting laws. We can regain the momentum in 2024 IF we all vote.

Back to the tax problems of giving a tax break to married couples, and then forbidding some people to marry. This isn't just a people issue - it's a laws and social structure issue. Do you really want this can of worms opened back up? You never solved it the first time.

As far as " both marriages being the law of the land", this should be a wake up call to true Christians and true pastors. This is only the beginning to what the early churches faced after Christ rose and returned to heaven. This will be the one of the true tests to see if we meant what we said to God when we accepted Christ into our hearts to be our savior of our lives. It is only going to get rougher from here on out.

Not sure about the legality of it but it seemed it was easier to marry an alligator or a weapon than it was another human
