Americans Tried To Overthrow Democratic Republic of Congo

Americans tried to coup the Democratic Republic of Congo. Five alleged Americans including a high school football player and a used car dealer are dead or in custody after trying to overthrow the government. The leader Christian Malanga was killed during the attempt – However, the State Department says they have no records of him being an American but he allegedly sold used cars in Utah. Another is his 21 year old son Marcel. American authorities are trying to figure out how he went from playing high school football in Utah and wearing matching Christmas pajamas with his sister to… attempting to overthrow an African government. And the three others arrested are Benjamin Zalman, Patrick Ducey, and Taylor Thomson. And this is where it gets weird - the DRC says that Patrick and Taylor are actually the same guy with two different names. With the State Department saying they only know of two “reported to be” US citizens in custody. Now, the head guy Christian who is now dead was supposedly exiled to the US or became a refugee in the US in the 1990s. The DRC’s government says he tried to coup the government in 2017 too. And there’s a lot of confusion as to how Christian convinced other Americans to try to overthrow a government with him.

The football player from Utah was the son of the exiled Congolese leader. 1 of the white guys had a cannabis/e-cig business in Mozambique and the other white guy was a known drug dealer from the USA. So, it looks like the exiled Congolese guy took his son and a few business associates with him along with at least 50 other attackers.

Marcel went to my high school in Utah (graduated a couple years ago but he was one class above me) I literally found out about this situation over Twitter which was really bizarre. I never knew him personally but he played at the LB position on our High School football team he would occasionally speak in assemblies and he always seemed to rally with his friends or peers in cheers a lot. It’s so strange to me that all this has happened, never knew this info about him.
