If you have been collecting BJDs for a while then you may already be well-versed in the needs of these special dolls, but for those who are new to BJDs, or who have perhaps been collecting regular fashion dolls for a while and now been tempted by a special resin doll, the different needs of BJDs can be a bit intimidating. Unfortunately if you get this wrong and can have consequences that will really effect the cost of your new doll investment.
BJDs are different from regular fashion dolls in two key ways: the material they are made from and the way their joints are attached and these two things need to be considered when handling and redressing your BJD. The material used to make them is resin; it is like plastic but has some different qualities, the most important ones being that it is affected by sunlight and that it is very absorbent of things that touch it, especially oils. Unlike regular dolls, who have hinged plastic joints, a BJD has elastic running through her body that holds all of her pieces together and this means you need to take special care if you remove a hand in order to not lose the elastic and have our doll literally fall to pieces in your hands.

Another great video! Do you watch Allison’s channel? Munecas Poupess and Dolls? She had some great BJDs and you two should collaborate!

Hi Rhiella, what an informative video and nicely done. I do not have any BJD’s but it was very interesting all the same. Could some of these tips translate to vinyl dolls such as Robert Tonner and Gene Marshall dolls?
