How to Thread a Ratchet Strap

In this video, home renovation brothers Dave and Rich show you how to thread a ratchet strap.
Knowing how to thread a ratchet strap can make securing a large load a snap. A ratchet strap is like having an extra hand or two - simply attach the hooks to two fixed points and use the ratcheting mechanism to tighten the slack. Thank you. I couldn’t get the ratchet strap to unwind. I followed your video but still nothing. So I tried it on a different one, and viola, it worked. My first one must have been defective. The instructions on threading it also helped me when putting together the second strap.

There's a way to do it without binding the ratchet strap, as you say towards the end. I accidentally unthreaded mine, and can't figure out how to get it back to the original orientation, which I could ratchet down as much as I wanted without it binding. What use is a 10 foot strap if you can't tighten it down to less than a 9-foot length, for example? The way mine was before I unthreaded it, I could strap something down across 10 feet, or across 1 foot. EDIT: Nevermind, ignorant comment on my part. You have to take out the slack before you start ratcheting.
