A little more info: The reason the game puts you on the sorting chore is because every choicer in the game jumps to a specific label. When storing the "yes/no" from the brushing teeth note, you get label1 from the "yes" choicer.

When you select the stored "yes" on the menu for the chores, it jumps to label1 in that event which happens to be where the game starts processing loading in the sorting chore.

The reason this softlocks is because you have to fight fear of drowning by going into the bathroom and taking a bath. Fighting fear of drowning turns on a switch that causes the stage at Sweetheart's castle to be boarded up, thus making it impossible to get the L key.

I dont speedrun or anything myself, but when it comes to games i LOVE hearing about weird obscure glitches for some reason, so thankyou of posting about this stuff!! I didnt think there would be anything for OMORI :OO

Hey, I'm the guy that first discovered (or at least documented) the glitch, the 1.0.7 version patched this glitch since it can seriously compromise a playthrough. Thanks to the Omori speedrun community that decompiled the game the culprit of this glitch was a bugged if statement (or better, it was a missing check inside a nested if statement inside the function that handles that particular textbox): if I recall correctly prior to the 1.0.7 patch when the game displayed a text box with a Yes/No choice like the mom's note the keyboard input wasn't disabled between the end of "Love you, XOXO." text box and the start of "Do you want to...", hence why you could stop sweeping before the brush event properly ended... And this little oversight threw off the whole game logic.
Even if the game is softlocked you can at least complete the final Humphrey battle though. I remember making some videos documenting the whole glitch and its consequences, I think the best one was breaking the game to a such extend that I somehow got the something effect in the real world followed by a black kill screen in the whitespace. The video are unlisted since the glitch has been patched but they can still offer a more complete insight on how the game works, here's the playlist link:
