So if I understand you correctly, the mini3 pro sucks primarily because it’s not capable of running software that you are promoting and are most likely being compensated financially for that promotion. Not everyone that buys a drone wants to go into the photogrammetry business. Some of us just enjoy having an easy to operate drone that’s capable of capturing high quality pictures and video, which the mini 3 pro delivers.
I realize that if DJI hits it out of the park and comes out with a drone with lots of features and at a good price point under 250 grams that it’s quickly going to sell more drones of this type and unfortunately the companies that sell third party software are not happy. Apple does it, and so do many other tech based manufacturers. Why? Because it’s focused on their business, not aftermarket software companies that piggyback on their technology.
So, I don’t think it’s fair to slag DJI and a pretty good product just because it doesn’t benefit Drone Deploy. If someone wants to get into the photogrammetry business they should buy the proper equipment for it, even if it means that they have to invest the extra money to do it right. Just sayin.

There are limitations but, to be fair, still the best option for a drone under 250g

Finally someone said it! 👏 SDK should be launched ASAP once the SDJ is available from the manufacturer we still have to wait for the 3rd party software to be optimised with the SDK.
DJI should offer the SDK as a beta software before the drone has been released.
So the drone can be released at the same time as the SDK.
This will
1. increase sales immediately
2. Save the client from only using old redundant drones.
3. The drone operator can offer his clients the very latest.
The first drone manufacturer to resolve this issue will get the largest sales.
, because they will be offering up to date drones.

Amazon must be joking. I just sold my Mavic 2 with fly more combo for 550£ with all accesories you can think of, including high quality ND filters. And the drone was in absolutely perfect condition, batteries were almost new. I’m not the only one selling at this price. This is the price for a “used” one in UK.

Dylan, I’m looking for help to recover a deleted file from a dji2 iPhone 11 phone app. Before it was uploaded 😥 Any clues 🤷‍♂️ Thanks

Collision avoidance really? Not on my mini 3. What's up?

I get the feeling that DJI doesn't like/is moving away from third party software because it wants all your data...

Again Dylan, excellent video giving your impressions and limitations of the Mini 3. I cannot agree with you more regarding the difference between the DJI Go4 and Fly App. The absence of all the telemetry data that is not displayed on the Fly App as compared to Go4 was a disappointment for me. I also miss the ability to change the auto discharge rate of the Mavic batteries on the Fly App. Mavic 2 Pro battery discharge on the Go4 App can be adjusted to a 10 day discharge rate.... but only a 5 day discharge rate on the Phantom

People were also too critical of the Mavic 3 at the beginning and now it just proves to be one of the best drones out there. I know there's definitely a lot more to the Mini 3!

there is another issue with this drone: im doing VR-tours for construction sites, inside churches etc. Now dji developed a drone that really can tilt up and thus would be able to do full spheres. But still the sphere of this drone blurres the top 20% of the sphere as all others. What a shame when u fly in churches and wanna do spheres and show the beautiful inside roof paintings, etc. I was hoping for that, and dont understand why dji kills this absolute USP on the market, given the fact its the first to tilt up that high on 60° - including the angel inside the lens 90° would be easily possible - and making this drone a really 360-game changer. what a shame

I for one as a programmer - this was a concern for the money the Mini 3 cost. But I’m sure ill enjoy flying it around until an SDK becomes available.

It took over a year for the Mini 2 to get it's SDK. Maybe it might be like that for the Mini 3?

Hey Dylan,

Assuming an SDK existed and you were able to use the 3rd party apps as expected, how would you then feel about the Mini 3 Pro? Is it still not serious enough of a contender for someone with a growing interest in the hobby and the desire to got 107 and make some side money, maybe enough to grow into something else?

Love your content, appreciate how honest you are about the realities.

Kindly,
Fortune

Just picked up the mini 3 as my first drone and was really disappointed when I found out about this. I'm not a professional pilot but was planning on using it for simpler work in my architecture business when the budget doesn't allow for a surveyor. Now I'm just stuck using it for some pretty pictures. I put my hope to the "Pro" name and hope to see the SDK sooner rather than later.

would really love to see the into deep of the mini 3.
besides from the unavailability of third party apps, to me, it comes down to the global shutter of the P4 versus the higher horizontal GPS accuracy of the mini 3 (±1, 5 m vs ±0, 5 m)

what do you think about that?

I understand and respect your opinion. But in my opinion the mini 3 was targeted for the rec drone pilots. Not professional photography drone pilots. Thats why it still a sub 249g drone. Pilots who want to use aftermarket software to fly will not use a 249g drone to make professional videos for several reasons. Wind, flight time for example. Yes it will be nice to use other flight software but its something I can wait for. Its not something that would stop me from buying a great drone though. Again just my opinion.

I just realised…. Sold mini 2, it took them good amount of time to release the SDK for mini 2 and just when I started enjoying mini 2 I sold it. Now I’ll be limited to same thing from where I started…

sorry, but not every profession needs a sdk for a drone. for some inspections for instance you just need sharp pictures. as one landscape ecologist for example you need pictures for yourself to evaluate certain landscape elements or gain some overview over settlements or other bigger areas. as i have to deal with angry land owners the disadvantage you talked of regarding the small size as an image problem for customers in reality is one big advantage in my business just because it’s small and silent so it attracts no attention. i use it for expertises. the mini 3 is perfect for this. some friends of mine are using the mini 3 for roof inspections. they are highly satisfied with it and the professional use in those fields. as for me there’s already enough software to cover many needs.

Hi Dylan, I just want to say I love your videos! Recently, I’ve found out that the SDK for the DJI mini 3 pro is slated to come out around late august. This is with a completely new SDK called MSDK V5 which I am very excited for! It will offer support for the Mavic 3 and mini 3 pro around the end of august with the higher enterprise drones taking more priority. I hope you found this helpful!
