How to REALLY Check RAM Speed in Windows 10

Checking RAM or memory speeds also involves CAS latency. In this video, you will learn find out how to check both clock speeds and CAS Latency. Getting fast RAM may help squeeze in a bit more performance for gaming.

You can see your PC's clock speed from the Task Manager.

You can see CAS Latency from an app called CPU-Z:

Thanks for the informative video. For those who like a little more detail: You may want to mention that your equation for computing "True Latency" generates results in nanoseconds (nsec). I think units are always important. Also mention that the rational for your "conversion factor" of 2000, rather than 1000, results from the fact that RAM executes on both the rising and falling edges of a clock cycle, hence 2 * 1000 = 2000.

Impressed by the level you go into. However, the other timings have impact on performance, even if to a small degree, no?

Awesome the exact video I was looking for everyone was showing me how much ram I had but not how much is being used at a certain time. This is mostly to check if your having a memory leak . While running a game ofcorse

wasn't expecting it to be this stressful

To be honest, its true when they say "Old is Gold", although this video is 4 years old, it still important to understand such knowledge in now days new generation of tech. This video helped me pick my rams, Thanks

Thanks, this helped me realise that my RAM is already very good (2x8GB x 3000 MHz, C15), I get a "real latency" of 10.

Thank you this really helped. Just built my pc and had to set ram frequency in bios, but was wondering why it showed up different in cpu-z. Helped a ton!

This is such an awesome, easy (and important) video. I've taught myself a lot about the technical side of pc building simply through being forced to as a consumer/enthusiast. From trying to assess compatibility when upgrading and just generally tuning the performance of my system but this is one thing I've never looked into and it's SO important. Thanks for making it so easy. Easy subscribe!
Edit: Newegg added a check box to choose the CAS latency you want (if available) and adjusts the price accordingly, nice to see!

I was so confused about the difference in RAM speed on Task Manager vs CPU-Z thanks for the education on SINGLE data rate shown on CPU-Z.

Wow, I made some changes in the bios, had been running my 3200mhz gaming ram at 2100mhz... Imagine that, for almost 2 years. Losing all that performance, and dropping some frames cause of that. Just reestarded my system and it feels faster opening staff.

I just wanted to make sure I was not crazy, and confirm it actually is running now at 3200 mhz. And task manager shows it. Thank you man. Fast solution, no boring intros, straight to the point. At 18 seconds of video you had my concern resolved.

Thanks! I was trying to upgrade but i forgot what my other stick of ram was, this helped me identify it!

I have 2 sticks of 4gb 1600mhz. Does that make a total of 3200mhz? How much vram can I get in igpu Vega 11 of ryzen 5 2400g?
