Inside Liebherr: Creating the Largest Mobile Cranes in the World | FD Engineering

The Liebherr family company, based in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, is the global market leader in the mobile and crawler cranes sector, with around 30,000 of the company's mobile cranes currently in service worldwide. Among these is the LTM 1750, the largest mobile crane in the world that can drive on the road with its enormous telescopic boom mounted. It has a maximum load capacity of 800 tons with a 52-meter telescopic boom and a maximum lift height of 152 meters. The crane consists of four elements: the carrier, the superstructure, the engine, and the telescopic boom. The metal fabrication shop is where the frame sections for the mobile telescopic crane are made, consisting of over 1000 individual parts that all have to be joined together exactly according to the fabrication plan. The LTM 1750 costs approximately €4 million and is equipped with hydraulic axle suspension. The crane can maneuver on site with a load on the hook and can lift up to 1.8 tonnes at the maximum operating radius of 160 meters.

This isn't just a crane. It's an orchestra of steel, hydraulics, and German obsession with perfection.

What a beautiful piece of German engineering that crane is, thank you for sharing

That frame on the LTM 1750 looks like a complex work of art.

Your music doesnt need to be this hard. You have such a great sound track that anything you show on screen is made multiple times better. Great work putting this online for us to all enjoy! Liebherr #1, even in the state with a place down the road showing off these cranes.

Liebberr is ultimate. No comparison needed . Liebberr is way ahead of time . Thanks for sharing.

This is a First Class Operation. When I observe the way people perform the different jobs they are doing, It appears "Safety, " is one of the "Most Valued Qualities, " As is Design and Engineering. Good Job.

Pretty amazing process...You have to give the Germans a lot of credit here...Even though it is such a large scale...everything is very precisely made and fit...Really a modern marvel...as they say.I would be extremely proud to build something like this..

I can still hear the narrator, could you turn up the music a bit more?

It's wonderful for this old man, who has loved cranes all his life but rarely up close to them, to be able to see the manufacturing process and use of them on YouTube. What amazing machines and what advances in engineering in my lifetime. Great video.

Excellent documentary! The whole process, from start to finish, in careful detail, with decently long shots: no "flash" editing or multiple stroboscopic jump cuts. Just good, clean shots with all the details needed. The video editing is just as good as the amazing crane itself.

What can you say! Absolutely incredible. How on earth do they design and manufacture all the thousands of precision parts, put them all together and operate them safely around the world. Engineering is something humans have become very good at!

From Dave L Great documentary. I like the fact they are responsible for there own safety, no hard hats no safety glass's. Everything is slow and methodical no pencil pusher looking over there shoulders.

The music is over the top and bombastic. Dial it down a little.

Wow, at 29:57 – everything looks so green! It feels both classic and minimalist, yet somehow like a futuristic tech vehicle! 😆 Driving this in the city must be such a cool experience!

I love the happy faces on the nuts that have been torqued and inspected on the fittings at the 6:47 mark 😁

Why is the music so intense? It is also very loud and annoying and makes it hard to enjoy the content.

Wonderful video, I am a retired mechanic so you know I really enjoyed this video. I had seen one of your cranes on a jobsite, I tell you seeing the crane on the video does not do it justice, you need to see it in real life. I remember the earlier cranes rotated on a pin, I see that you use the slewing ring which is got to be 100 times stronger than the old-fashioned pin. Anyway some really great engineering I'm glad you took time out to make this documentary, thanks again

A little less bombastic on the music would be nice. This isn't a WW2 German tank assault against the West! But a great video still.

Every time I see these on the road, all I can think of is Terminator 3's chase scene.

LIEBHERR began in 1949 with a mobile crane, so this video is a poignant bookend. Excellent camera work and voiceover. I'd replace the annoyingly bombastic soundtrack to make this video rock.
