Mars Bound MAVEN Probe Launches

NASA's Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN), spacecraft launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V 401 rocket Monday, Nov. 18.

MAVEN, the first spacecraft devoted to exploring and understanding the Martian upper atmosphere, will take critical measurements to help scientists understand climate change over the Red Planet's history and how the loss of Mars' atmosphere to space determined the history of water on the surface.

NASA should fly a drones as they did in the SpaceX launch to get an ariel video of the launch, the drone can even chase the vehicle during the initial launch sequence.. be fantastic footage.

Congratulations NASA. I have a query. Was Maven injected directly into a trans mars orbit or will it be an initial earth centric orbit followed by a sling shot maneuvre similar to ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission ?

RD-180 engines of AtlasV also used by Russian Zenit rocket. Uses kerosene/liquid oxygen making the rocket smokeless, a usual fuel used by most Russian rockets

Hi there! Does anybody know where you can get Maven data (just like in this video) but for the full trip to Mars ? Like a website that shows current position ? Sorry if this is obvious but I can't find it :-(

This program looks like kerbal space program but then Some what more pixxely
And ksp is more detailed
But this is real and very good job Iam 13 and i hope this sort of things change the future <3
