We are Joe and Liisu, relatively new to YouTube but really excited to be a part of this community. We live small and sustainably in my home on wheels (a lovely van called Freyja) and from time to time out of our backpacks (we have not named the backpacks yet). On this channel, we ask you to join us on our travel adventures off the beaten track where we show you the beauty of untouched nature and wander into places most tourists don't dare to go.

Why not everything is as it seems 🤷‍♀️, also the northern lights.



What we see with our eyes in the sky depends on the aurora activity and the more activity the more visible colors there are. But a lot of the nights, what we see with our eyes is not as colorful and bright as the timelapse videos. And for a first time visitor, it might be a surprise that there is only white and grays visible in the sky and they might miss it due to expecting greens.



The difference comes from light exposure - for the eye it is a fraction of a second and for the camera it can be several seconds making the colors brighter than they are to the naked eye. If there is more activity, you can see colors without a camera as well but that is not an everyday thing!



Either way, it is a magical experience and leaves you wanting more and more of the auroras!

That's not correct. The Aurora light appears differently from time to time. Sometimes it is like you explain, and sometimes it is vibrant green colour.
I live in Norway and have seen the Aurora lights many times 😊
