A run through of the gear and leaders I have been using so far this winter of fly fishing on the lakes here in Victoria, Australia. Here I construct a straight fluorocarbon leader from scratch, connect it to my fly line and it is so simple!

Thanks Tom, that's WAY longer between flies than I have been fishing, mine are usually only 2 foot apart, can't wait to try this set up and see if I am more successful

Wondering if you could show how you tie the surgeons knot in a closer view? Interested in why you put the knot in your mouth as part of the process?

Thank you Tom, that's very helpful. Q: Why do you prefer the intermediate over a floater? is it because it gets the streamers under the surface and fishing straight away? I noticed you seem to fish very fast retrieves. The advice I was given was to mostly use a figure 8 even with streamers? It's worked for me but only sometimes. I have had a lot of trouble with the smelters.

Nice tip Tom thanks for sharing. When casting with this setup do you keep the loops relatively wide/open to prevent tangles?

Bill's confused Tom . . . A fast sinking line is one that sinks quickly (read fast), yes? An intermediate sinking line is one that sinks at an 'intermediate' (read medium?) rate, yes?
Please, what is a fast/intermediate line? Is it a nuancing of the two terms, where the line might be a sinker to the extent that it sinks faster than a 'medium' speed sinking line?
Maybe I should be talking to JB? If that happened, he'd be wanting to 'sell' me one. Nice as JB is, I'd feel bad if I ended up not buying one.
