Are the laser guns good? Yes and no.
Are the laser guns fun? Very.
Lasermaxxing is when you use all the laser pointers so that you never have to stop shooting.

This video details five laser weapons in Helldivers 2. I've done my best to compress all this information but that didn't make this video short so I strongly advise you leverage the timestamps to find the information that is most relevant to you. This guide is as comprehensive as I could make it.

UPDATES:
1. Max laser range may be 200M (i had the wrong number written down).
2. Thanks to some commenters I have tested the Reload-hold UI vs the left-bottom UI heat menus and there IS a discrepancy. The dagger can have 8-10% heat while the UI says empty. This does not necessarily explain everything but it explains some of it.

the length of the video wasn't a problem, I'd rather see a very complete detailed video like this than an short video.

The dagger is weird in that it doesn't follow the design logic of the other sidearms which actually have higher damage output or at least damage per shot of their primary 'parallels.' Senator revolver does more damage than the DMRs per shot with more AP. Default pistol does more damage than the liberator series per shot. MP does more damage with higher fire rate than the liberator and more dps than the defender smg. So it's strange to me that the dagger as compared to the scythe does less damage, has worse heat cap, has fewer magazines, and is seemingly less accurate. I expect a tradeoff for the potential infinite ammo but it strikes me as weird that it's the only sidearm that is worse in every aspect than its most closely related primary.

Why don't we have a laser sentry turret? I understand not having a laser eagle, they're supposed to be a fast (usually explosive) hit. But the sentry is the only 'weapon' that's lacking a laser option. Obviously the walker is new, but an eventual laser walker would be cool. Would also solve the problem of the walker being useless once it's out of ammo.

that intro is so funny

and something that's annoying with balancing around "infinite ammo" is that the arc thrower also does that AND pierces armor AND can deal with swarms without any sort of battery or heat or anything

I just want to say that the reason they made the Sickle that way is because we used to abuse it on OG helldivers, since it was a pew pew laser instead of a constant beam, we used to handle it as a semi instead of an auto, which ironically made it so it NEVER overheated and still did amazing damage.

Regarding the discrepancy in fireing times, I have a suspicion that the very bottom of the heat gauge isn’t displayed

Honestly I'm still kind of surprised that lasers perform so poorly against armor. It would be interesting if the laser cannon at least was specialized not as an armor piercing tool, but an armor stripping tool (does very little damage to the enemy underneath the armor, but sustained fire can *remove* the armor)

Gonna have to agree on the Sickle sights. They're just so good. I wish more guns had that sight.

You did great w/ this video format:

- solid data / testing (for a 2 man team pioneering this research, what more could you ask?)
- great footage
- excellent tactics / suggestions
- practical loadouts based on experience
- highlighting all key details & use cases for anyone who wants to implement the lasers themselves

I'd given up on lasers completely (except Sickle), so you've definitely opened my eyes to more possibilities, especially for the laser canon.
