A people of a nation took arms, killed many people, became spy for the enemy, joined the enemy by supplying them with brigades, openly tried to carve out thier country even that country was in WW1 and lost thousands of manpower even before in last 100 years. The betrayed country exiled renegade people, many innocents of that people killed, mistreated, died. That country even hanged its officials for the mistreat.

It is a great virtue to repent by acknowledging the wrongs of one's ancestors. Which the French government has been able to show. It is not possible for everyone to recognize such great qualities. Hopefully, the current Turkish government will acknowledge that their former Ottoman Empire carried out indiscriminate genocide against the Armenians and will issue an official apology to the Armenians.
