Historic Savannah, GA Walking Tour: Cathedral, Vaults, & Squares--Oh My! | Vlog
Показать описание
If this is your first time in Savannah, GA, and you're a big history buff, here are some amazing historical places to visit in Savannah's historic district!
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is a beautiful work of art and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Savannah. With ornate stained glass windows, incredible architectural details, and elaborate murals, this Cathedral is a must-see--and it's free!
Next on our tour, we visited River Street and learned about Savannah's cotton history. The Old Savannah Cotton Exchange was the hub of the world's cotton industry during the 1800s. Several areas around River Street, such as Factors Walk and Cluskey Vaults, were established to accommodate for Savannah's cotton industry. You can't visit River Street without checking out these historic structures!
We briefly stopped by the Old Sorrel Weed house, which was designed by the same man who created Savannah's vaults: Charles B. Cluskey. This home was featured in the famous film, Forrest Gump. We stopped by other spots featured in Forrest Gump, such as Savannah's squares. The historic area of Savannah was laid out in squares by General James Oglethorpe and we stopped by some of our favorites out of Savannah's 22 squares.
Savannah is bursting with history, and there's so much to explore, but we'll show you some spots you should definitely see to get a glimpse into Savannah's history.
Let us know in the comments which of these spots you'd want to visit!
