Thats why "Alien" was such a hit.
The aliens in that film were far more alien than any previous film.

I was literally just trying to explain to a Korean friend why "Glorp" is an alien name

Meanwhile, Star Trek costume department: “No. Slightly weird foreheads is all you get. Maybe an unusual eye colour, as a treat.”

We got fictional space racism before GTA 6 bro
Celestial_Chip
we haven’t even met them and we’re already stereotyping them
Tuntor
had the same thought with the way we do “caveman speak” like it’s always “grug want stick” or some such lol
KSlessthan
the movie “arrival” definitely touches this, having the whole alien language be a series of articulated symbols rather than words or sentence structure

"gleeble glorp blorp" 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥

Btw, the "grey alien" design originated from a speculative evolution in a magazine about what humans could evolve into in the future, giving us large heads for more intelligence, huge eyes for stargazing, slender bodies because of less gravity, etc.

As for the question of “why would we hear in the same range”, there’s a sci-fi book called Project Hail Mary that did a really good job of answering this.
The sound of a rock hitting another rock is the same everywhere. The sound of an animal running would be the same everywhere. Objects coming into contact with other objects produces a very predictable type of sound. Thus, species that evolve to hear at all will likely focus in around that range of sound.

We're fucked if we can't communicate with the aliens, and they see all the shit we've been chatting about them.
...and drawing about them.

I never knew that there was a reason that aliens are depicted as such because it shows intelligence.

Imagine if aliens straight up couldnt see colors above the radio wave frequency. Earth would just look like a bright orb with nothing but light pillars on it
Kronman
Aliens look like more 'evolved' humans. Compared to other primates, humans have less hair, more slender limbs, and bigger heads. The classic 'gray' alien continues this trend.

I have no clue why stereotypical aliens are hairless
CultReport
The best non stereotypical Alien in media I've seen in "Rocky" from the book "Project Hail Mary"
They communicate in a sort of musical tone, almost like a pipe organ.

Men In Black taught me that aliens communicate through beatbox.

Because looking at a stupid green cat with no context provided other than “Schneeb. Glorp. Sploink.” Is strangely funny
