I’m not sure I understand how this works. If there were aliens in that galaxy with their own telescope, would they say our galaxy was 13 billion years old also?

So then when the universe is expanding you should see the direction of it's expansion and trace it back to one point. If it's expanding, does it expand to a black empty space or is the whole envelope expanding with it? What is holding the envelope of space or what is holding the vacuum of space together? Where is all the material coming from in the first place?
