Good lighting is important for videos AND for sewing! Today I'm sharing a sewing hack for my lighting setup for sewing and explaining why I like to use this setup. While bright lighting really benefits low vision sewists, we can all benefit from cranking up the light over both our machines and sewing table!

I love the grow light idea. I always feel like I'm sewing in the dark so I used your link for the grow lights. Thank you!!

ThankU for addressing this issue PattyMac! After struggling far too long with weak lighting that prevented me from sewing much after dark, your episode inspired me to buy a new lamp! It was only 30$ at Aldi & came with 800 lumens bulb that casts an amazing glow to keep me working for hours overnite!! Called a "globe lamp" it stands 20" tall & is quite attractive actually, fitting in perfectly on my table, so thankyou thankyou thankyou!!!

I'll bet i bought the same set of 2 out lites from Joanns. Mine was a floor lamp and desk lamp and they are silver. You are right about them too. Now I know what I'm going to ask Santa for at Christmas. I'd better be good. Lol

I struggled with sewing other than during the day because I needed the natural light. I purchased a duo- light from DayLight and it has been a game changer for me. It has two lights with 4 levels of brightness and the two lights can be adjusted independently of each other. Will be looking for a floor lamp as well soon. Thank you for your videos and generously sharing your knowledge and experience with us!

I bought the grow light for my sewing area (small loft area on second floor) as it has no natural light. Love the additional light but not the aesthetic of the lamp. So, I ordered two clip on grow lights and am moving the four-arm one to my husband’s shed for his project area. Win-win for both of us. Thanks, PattyMac for this lighting tip! 😊

Yes I do use extra light, in fact I was amazed that I founda similar led flexible table lamp at a thrift store for $4.00 and it was brand new and I love the 2 USB ports and mine also has a fan with 2 settings- the light has 6 settings! The flexibility is great! Thank You for Sharing! I too, recommend all sewists to invest in a light, it makes a world of difference!

I have 2 of the Slimline 3 lights. Wonderful, wonderful lights. A little pricy but well worth it. I have a pretty good size cutting table and I had to use 4 Ott lights on it before to get enough light. Now I have one Slimline 3 and it lights up the entire table. I also have one on my sewing machine cabinet which is also a pretty good size. Just love them!! I am 75 yrs old and need light!!

Dear Patty: Great video! So informative and you are absolutely right. One cannot have enough light for sewing. I use all kinds of lighting around my machine.. What a difference!

Thank you. I struggle to get enough light in my sewing room and even during the daylight, I use 6 additional lamp/lights…my favorite being my Stella lamp. My babylock sewing machines have great light and I couldn’t ask for more but it’s still a struggle. Looking for a new floor lamp now.

Those are really nice. I’m impressed with the grow lights! I have a great light on my Pfaff, my machine sits right in the window, and there are still times when I want more light. Lol. Yes, age is catching up with me, too. 😂. Thanks for the great videos. I enjoy them so very much!

I had Ott lights for sewing when I lived in Florida. Now I live in Northern Germany and I use full spectrum lightbulbs in the overhead lighting and in a lamp on the sewing table. My husband uses a full spectrum lamp by his chair and we have one in the bedroom and kitchen. I first bought the light bulbs to chase away the winter blues. This Florida girl needs light. We sometimes joke that it might look like we’re doing surgery in here!
