SIL is clearly insecure and jealous to the point of it being pathetic and pretty sad. I say completely stop telling her your plans, and she can just scramble to catch up.

Also. Stop sharing your plans, goals and dreams!! A lot of people find their plans sabotaged from outsiders because they interfere in one way or another.. only share with hubby. Go crush and really blow people out of the water by what you have accomplished… and if they still try to copy you. Good luck, peace be with you. You still have your dreams and plans accomplished. Others will start to notice the copy cats.

Sometimes siblings get in a competition started by their parents pitting them against each other. OP should stop telling her her plans or give the wrong plans.

Time to put SiL on an information diet. I had to do this with my social calendar because my sister would make it hers.

When I was younger my mom had family doing this. She at one moment said something completely made up about how she wanted the new interior to be 😂

I think the biggest source of frustration is the EASE by which the sister-in-law is doing things. OP and her husband have so much sweat equity and sacrifice and everything they have has come HARD, but then the sister just...gets new cars, or gets pregnant no problem, and now is building without any financial struggle (apparently).
I wouldnt be mad they have no original ideas: I'd be mad they get the easy path to everything I'm fighting so hard for - and they didnt even want it to begin with!

NTA - SIL is definitely either imitating you out of admiration or is trying to one-up you. I think what makes this so awful is that she is beating you to your goals and aspirations. That is definitely frustrating. I wonder if this comes with terrible debt they will need to bail themselves out of though.

In the meantime, I’m with Dusty. Time to share your plans to live in a van down by the river. 😉

If she didn't even know what a barn-dominium was, she's potentially not even going to be happy living that way, so literally reap what you sow. Potentially could learn to love it or pretend to, or could end up learning to stop stealing other people's ideas to 'compete'.

In the end you know not to continue giving her information but otherwise...I guess let her fail on her own life choices. Does her stealing your dream really stop you from living it if you are making choices that make you happy and saving it for reasonable times?

It’s super annoying when ppl take ur idea to pass off as theirs (w/o a mention). SM influencers even complain about it.

_Intellectual Property Law (“IP”)_ was created to protect our ideas. It’s not small. This is far less serious but don’t dismiss it becuz it’s not you.

SIL is not “stealing” anything. That would mean it’s gone without redemption. Just because they did it first does not mean that OP is prevented from building their dream. It would be good if OP just talked the compliment and move on.

I feel like a little pettiness might help out. I think OP should announce NEW plans ... Fake ones... And keep the true plans to themselves from now on. Let SIL copy the fake plans and hope she's first. Then carry on with your real plans once it's too late for SIL to shift gears.

Don't worry about what other people are doing. Live your life and ignore what they are doing. Them copying you doesn't take anything away from your life. Let it go and move on. Stop telling them your plans if it bothers you. NTA.
