Easy Sega Saturn (Model 1) disc swap method - No timing required
Показать описание
You'll need one legitimate game, the Sega Saturn System Discs KD01 (for Sega games) and KD02 (for third party games, and one burned game of your choice. Also, the Sega Saturn Region Patcher SRP 3.0.
Available here:
This is a variation on the Rings of Saturn boot method, but still works without worrying about destroying a CDR in a perfectly uniform manner to prevent drive damage.
Burn the KD0x disc to any CDR, and then use the region patcher to modify the header of your game image, and convert to your Saturn's region if it's non-local. Burn to CDR and you're ready to go.
I disconnected the regular door sensor and routed my own switch outside the case. This makes swapping much easier in my opinion, but it can still easily be done with the system in pieces. Note that simply taping the sensor closed all the time won't work with this method since you need to get it to read to TOC of the new game. Well, I assume it won't work. Give it a shot if you feel like it.
Anyway, turn on the Saturn with the door sensor open and wait for it to boot up. Insert KD0x and close the sensor switch. You'll hear the drive do a quick read, and then start seeking 10 or so times. Any time during that seek, just pop off the KD0x disc and put in the legitimate disc.
It will read the security info off the legitimate disc, immediately disable its copy protection, and stop the disc spinning. It will stay in this mode until it's powered off.
When the disc stops open the door sensor, remove the legitimate game and insert your burn. Close the door sensor and it will happily read it without trying to read the security info at the edge of the disc.
Play away.
On an unrelated note, Dragon Force II has recently had a fan translation to English released. Woo.
Apparently Model 2 Saturns are more finicky, but I can't find anything definitive on whether this method would be more difficult on them.
