The Real Reason Europe Is Going Back To Border Controls

In this episode of General Knowledge I talk about how many European Union countries like Germany, France, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania and Bulgaria are implementing controls and checkpoints within their internal borders. Suspending the Schengen and EU Ideal of a free movement of people within the continent. And understanding why this might mean a long-term change for Europe. Are border checks the opposite of the European ideal? Or are migration controls essential to maintain the possibility of a European project? 'Hot zones' like Calais, Greece, Italy and the Mediterranean pose interesting questions on this topic.

Ceuta and Melilla is in Africa next to Marocco and they have a 3 layered, Nato-grade fences and barbed wires surrounding them!

Instead of creating internal EU borders .... why not share the bill to patrol and secure external EU borders?

Correction: no border controls don't mean free movement. The UK had free movement before Brexit but still had border controls.

Borders have been temporarily closed in the Schengen area many times now. Wikipedia even have a list of when it has happened per country. It was the most prominent in 2020.

In the meantime, in Poland, while we are building a 1, 000 km long and 50 km wide heavily fortified line on the border with Russia and Belarus similar to DMZ in the Korea: "Heh, please kids, what do you know about closing the border and control?"

Here in Denmark we have had border control since the beginning of 2016, I live near the border and there have not been any major problems.

Here in Belguim we dont do on border checks for 2 reasons. 1 we cant afford it and 2 we are like the cause they check the borders XD
