I had the pleasure of seeing these guys perform their hearts out for about 40 people at Bogart's in Long Beach. I was blown away that night, and I still am. This is a great fucking album

Devoto's voice and Noko's guitar sound is a match made in heaven.

Stunning. Brilliant. Breathtaking. An unjustly forgotten classic.

This album is still one of the five best I know. It breathes an unusually intense blend of vulnerability, desperate desire and romantic refusal. Although I may still only get a fraction of all references and maybe misinterpret whole tracks, it's a soundtrack that brings me back to my teens. Am I stupid?
skolrelaterat
One of the best produced albums and amazingly inventive it stands on its own next to ol magazine.

still hits me somewhere deep down like the first time I heard it.
nickmyers
This record is so brilliant and the production is absolutely amazing.

"If I meet you at the fountainhead I'll win you downstream" why does that move me so completely, almost to tears? Of course the rest of the song does too, but that I understand why... hmmrgh

Brilliant track ❤️Howard, musical genius

That guy Noko makes this whole song and video. He's got a good rock look, his guitar is unique (an Ovation Deacon or Breadwinner?), his background vocal spots are brilliant, and his lead guitar breaks have the greatest tone from a guitar I've ever heard. Pure bite, but thick, not trebly.
PrincePurple
Such a brilliant video. So simple, yet neatly and creatively directed and overall well-rounded, fitting Devoto's performance like a glove. And great music.
marinaprudencio
One of the most underrated indie tunes ever.
fastcakes
One of my all time favourite vinyls by one of my all time favourite dudes - HD.

sat in a room with a green tv a screen... talkin about this man and his penchant for leaving groups during perceived stardom

Love Apollo 440. And this is very cool. Sounds like new wave. Noko later played guitar for @440 and Devoto took part in songwriting on @440's first album.
stevewilson
Brilliant! Still love this and still have the album in vinyl.
stevemcgrath
Top single, I remember having the first album in a unique brown paper bag...
grahamburns
Great tune - got the 7 inch fold out poster version

two of the best parts of the song aren't in the video. the stanza that ends 'watch me bite on a bullet and spit out a limousine' and the end, where the guitar sound changes and Devoto muses 'i simply may be evil' and makes you wonder if you misunderstood the whole song.
