I did that and the squirls love the varieties. They use the fence as a freeway to get to the best tree.

Very nice. Cross pollination is needed for some fruit trees. Cherry and apricot come to mind.

I'd love to do this. Unfortunately, the only good area I have to put them in the ground is a utility easement. The utility companies are bad about damage in the name of keeping things clear.
