Jackie was born in 1915 in Europe. The lion cub was transported to the USA. He appeared in the screensaver in the 1928 film "White Shadows in the South Seas", according to some sources, he appeared on the screensaver as early as 1925. In 1934 MGM colorized the Jackie screensaver, but decided to use a different lion for the color films (see next section).

Jackie became the first lion of MGM to growl, because in the cinema (at first) the phonograph was turned on at the moment the logo was shown and Jackie began to "growl", but in silent films the recording of his growl was removed. Since 1930, Jackie's growl has not been played separately, but along with the film.

The screensaver with Jackie had two versions: shortened (the lion roars 3 times, then turns its head to the left) and elongated (after all of the above, the lion returns its head to its original position).

Trained by Jackie Mel Kuntz. There is even a photograph of Jackie playing with her trainer (by the way, it is called that).

In September 1927, Jackie was on an airplane and had a disaster. The plane crashed. But the pilot and Jackie survived. Jackie was sent to the Philadelphia Zoo in 1931. After that, the lion received the nickname "Lucky". The plane was intended for Jackie's advertising campaign to show what the new lion looks like. The remains of the cage and aircraft are still at the crash site.

Jackie died of a heart attack in 1935.
