Education In Emergencies

A multi country effort to protect children and teachers from the effects of conflict is underway in the Lake Chad region. The initiative trains teachers to identify risks and develop emergency preparedness and response plans with child protection focal points to reduce the danger for children in an area where bomb explosions, armed attacks, and abduction remain a constant threat.

To highlight this underreported issue, UNICEF has released a new short fiction film that depicts the importance of education and protection for 1.3 million children at risk.

Filmed by UNICEF in Chad, and based on testimonies documented by UNICEF in the Lake Region of Chad, this film shows the symbolic journey of refugees who were uprooted from their homes. A human chain formed to illustrate the will of this community to give an education and a future to its children and this despite the exactions of Boko Haram, a fight against the obscurantism.
