YLs are ready to start their journey to discover the world around us. It is a time in their lives when all they know is based on those closest to them, so it is often an exciting time when their horizons are broadened. Thus, it is a perfect time to use environmental awareness to help them make sense of the world, while simultaneously reflecting on our responsibilities and effects of actions on the climate. The topic can be approached from an ordinary everyday perspective, appropriate to the child’s context. So, far from it having to be complex, climate action can be a topic easily integrated into the YL classroom. Join me to consider how we do not need to become activists or scientists to deal with the topic in ELT.
