8 Unusual Pottery Tools I use Every Day // My Pottery Tool Kit

In this video I am showing you my favorite pottery tools that are OUTSIDE of the usual pottery tool kit! These are my DIY tools, unusual tools that aren’t necessarily meant for pottery, and just the tools that I think are underrated and underused— all of these are pottery tools I use every day!

the trimming tool works even better if you grind or sharpen it. Also if you make it a little thinner.

The one tool I use the most is a "throwing stick". Inspired by Simon Leach, but made from a simple paint stirring stick you get for free (over here anyway) when you buy a bucket of pain. I cut the end in an angle so I can use it to cut of the skirt, and I make the edge sharper with sandpaper. I often also round of and sharpen the end a bit so I can use that to make some textured ridges if I want. I like it because it's thinner and therefor sharper than most wooden ribs. And if it wears out I just make a new one.
I also like my chattering tool, a hacksaw blade that is bent to make chatter marks on leather hard pots.

I don't have a turntable yet. I improvise with a round wooden tray (snudda) from Ikea. But it's on my wish list. Great video!!!

That's really smart. Engineering solutions like that are always better than just wearing protective equipment, which sometimes fails (and is rated as having the least amount of effectiveness for reducing hazards). And there are a lot of folks who do things like wear beards under their respirators and the like, rendering them ineffective.
