Energy security and the future demand for sustainable coal | ICSC Webinars

The ICSC has examined near-term energy issues arising due to the war in Ukraine, focussing on energy security of supply problems together with various counter-initiatives, including commentary on climate change mitigation expectations. In particular, commentary is provided on the prospects for increases in coal use, both in the near and longer term. The primary region considered is the European Union, which is supplemented with summaries of impacts in Eastern Europe, North America and especially Asia. Commentary is also provided on the associated medium and longer-term impacts on national plans for climate change mitigation, recognising this need for a balanced approach to optimise security and positive impact.
