Ingredients for Prawn Curry :

- Prawns, medium sized (cleaned and deveined) - 500 gms gross- 250-300 gms net
- Onions, fine chopped- 2 small
- Ginger garlic paste- 1 tsp
- Tomatoes, fine chopped- 2 small
- Green chillies, slit & cut- 2
- Salt- 3/4 tsp or to taste
- Turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
- Red Chilli powder- 2 tsp or less as per taste
- Coriander powder- 1/4 tsp
- Cumin powder- 1/2 tsp
- Coconut milk- 1 cup (of a quarter coconut or readymade)
- Coriander leaves, chopped- 1 tbsp
- Oil- 2 tbsp

Preparation:

- Shell, devein and wash the prawns. Let the water drain from the prawns.
- Chop the onions and the tomatoes, slit and cut the green chillies.
- Take out coconut milk from a quarter of a coconut or use fresh coconut milk available in stores.

Process:

- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a kadai and add the chopped onions.
- Fry on medium to low heat till translucent( around 8-10 mins) and then add the green chillies.
- Add the ginger garlic paste. Mix and fry for around 2 mins till raw smell is gone.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, mix and add the salt. Cook for around 5 mins till tomatoes are soft.
- Add all the powders other than garam masala powder.
- Mix and add 1/2 cup of water. Bhuno on medium for around 2-3 mins till the masalas are cooked.
- Now add the prawns and mix well. Fry for around 5 mins on medium heat.
- Add the coconut milk, let it come to a boil, lower the heat to low and cover & cook for around 10 mins.
- Now add the garam masala powder, mix & sprinkle chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with roti or rice.

I have been cooking for the best part of 80 years, I have decided to now learn Indian cooking. your recipe is my first attempt. and it turned out the perfect dish the first time. We had it with rice mixed with chicken cuppa soup powder chicken veg flavour small pinch of salt and lemon juice. so thanks. English cook.

Just made the recipe. Loved it a LOT! However when I first heat the oil I put in whole spices like: one star anise, one 2-inch cinnamon stick and two bay leaves. This helped add depth of flavor even more! Apart from that I made the recipe as is and it’s good!!! Thank you for sharing!

Here is my update. I make this prawn curry !! Its so DELICIOUS. I did tweak it a little. I doubled your recipe. 1 pound prawns, 5 small indian brinjal and 8 ladies fingers (okra). When I added the onions to the hot oil I also added a crushed lemon grass stalk. I added additional 2 tsp extra hot chilli powder. The eggplant and ladies finger was cooked in the curry then the last 8 mins I added the prawns. Put the stove off and squeezed a whole lime. LOVED IT. Thank you so much !

I tried this recipe, mine did not turn out to look the same and I was disappointed. BUT the moment I tasted what I had made....I was SO HAPPY. The texture and flavour was good. I didn't have coconut milk so I just added normal milk and it did give that richness to the curry. I definitely recommend this recipe.

Made this today, absolutely delicious. I just substituted the coconut milk for extra tomatoes and with extra water let that condense into a nice medium runny gravy…will be having my prawns with rice! 😋😋😋

Replaced the red chilli powder with Kashmiri red chilli powder and added 200ml of Dabur Hommade coconut milk (and some water). It controlled the heat and retained all the flavor. Very simple and it turned out delicious. Thanks for the recipe!
