It's amazing how they are able to get from a random piece of metal to the Challenger Space Shuttle. It's like finding a random cigarette butt on the ground and claiming it was smoked by Elvis.

That gave me chills. Never crossed my mind that pieces of the shuttle are still being found. RIP.

Depends what you class as treasure! For the friends and families of the 7 crew members even just a tiny piece like that is precious to them.

I remember that happening! I was in the 7th grade when it happened! We watched this on the news at school and then at home! My heart still breaks for the Astronauts, their families and other loved ones! May they all Rest in peace!

When the Challenger incident happened, I was working for a large aerospace company in California. Since our company built many of the systems on the Challenger, the company piped in the live feed to our work areas so we could listen to the launch. When it exploded, some ppl screamed, some cried, but we were all in shock. I will never forget that tragic day.
RIP Brave 7.

Still to this day seeing anything about the shuttle disaster puts me in tears. Mission right before disaster I got to see it launch. Amazing.

I watched it explode live on TV in science class at school. Was my first experience with dealing with tragedy. I was 15 years old, remember it like it was yesterday.

Worse part of the challenger disaster was some of people were alive until the crew compartment hit the ocean. They had activated their personal oxygen systems but the velocity they hit the ocean at was unsurvivable.

Finds a tiny piece of aluminum on a beach… “It’s from challenger” so much for the scientific method 😂

Fact,
The Challenger Cockpit did not explode.
It separated from the shuttle just before everything else exploded, .
The cockpit crashed in the ocean.

Went metal detecting down there last week and found two pieces (a bit larger than what Gary showed) Very sobering to realize the event that put those little bits of metal on that beach..
