For me the best aspect of Chiang Rai is the access to nature, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, forests and flatlands and many different cultures. The problem is that everything is very spread out so those of us who live here and have our own transportation have a much easier time exploring the beauty of this province. Sixteen years living 50 km from town and I still love it. I have been visiting Chiang Rai ever since I met my wife more than 26 years ago but didn't really fall in love with the place until after we moved here from Bangkok.

i spent one day in Chiang Rai last december on my way to north by motorbike....it was a nice town as i remember. my guesthouse was 200thb!😁

Thanks, Chai. My GF tells me if she did not live in Chiang Mai she'd want to live in Chiang Rai. I admit, I've never been there, so I guess I will need to check it out. Enjoyed a weekend in Bangkok and Hua Hin the last couple months, but Chiang Rai keeps getting pushed back. So we shall see. Take care, Chai!

couple of places not mentioned near Chiang rai that are worth a visit are Doi Tung Royal Villa and the cave where the children were trapped. We paid for a car and driver and visited both along with stopping at the big godess statue in a day. Was planning to end up at the golden triange but we overstayed in each place so gave the golden triangle a miss as we were going on to Lao next and have been to cambodia before.
