Union Cabinet Approves Health Coverage for Seniors Under AB PM-JAY

The Union Cabinet has approved a significant health coverage expansion for senior citizens aged 70 and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). This move, benefiting 4.5 crore families and 6 crore seniors, provides Rs 5 lakh in free annual health insurance. Eligible seniors will receive a new distinct card for this coverage. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that this initiative fulfills PM Narendra Modi’s commitment to enhance health protection for India’s elderly population.

The title is misleading. It is not for all senior citizens but for those above 70 years of age

If husband and wife both r above 70, then 5 lakhs will be shared . So its a floater policy. In fact, as age increases, floater policy is not recommended. So it's hardly beneficial.

To implement it effectively there must be some monitor system in every state under central government to ensure that the hospitals are providing propper treatment to the hospitalized senior citizens. If this is not possible, there will be no use of the said insurance cover.

Hon.PrimeMinister has done a great job and we are very much thankful for the same but Railway minister Aswni vaishnav is not a suitable man to announce this .He himself should have done greater things for the senior citizens by reinstating the concessional travel in trains which have cancelled in the covid time .We request hon .Minister.to do it now

Practically meaningless as during billing period the hospital authority simply rejects it on the pretext that the treatments doesn't covers under the schemes as a consequence you need to vomit out and pay the bills with the help of loans 🙄

Excellent decision ironically the Bengal government ignored implimenting one of the best health scheme . Such policy of Mamta has deprived thousand who are iin need of government help. She ignored implimenting which she believed that popularity level of Modi would go in rising which she assumed to be threat to her desspotic policy.

5 lakh Rs per family means 2.5 lakh for husband and 2.5 lakh for wife if both are alive as understood by me. Total sum, 5 lakh but per family means 50 percent commitment delivered as understood by me. How much money the GOI shall spend ie pay as premium to Health Insurance companies do that weight of the scheme is understood clearly. No doubt one more good PRAYAS for Bhartiya Public who do not have resources.
