Joshua Green, 'The Devil's Bargain'

The key to understanding Trump’s election, Green argues, is Steve Bannon. Green, a long-time political commentator who is currently a senior national correspondent for Bloomberg Businessweek, profiled Bannon in 2015, citing him as the mastermind behind a “vast right-wing conspiracy” poised to take down Hillary Clinton and many others. Green traces the rise of the populist movement and Bannon’s role in it over the past six years, and points to Trump’s selection of Bannon—who had no experience running a national political campaign—to lead what looked, in August 2016, like a failing effort to win the presidency, as the decision that turned the election in Trump’s favor.

Bannon was married to a woman from my small Irish town. I heard through friends that she was a virtual prisoner in her home, watched by security with family and friends kept at bay. Those family and friends staged an intervention and got her out of the house and back to Ireland, where she lives quietly.

Listen to the question at 54:20 where the guy thinks Bannon's whole career is just dumb luck, serendipity over and over and over. This is how partisans think: assume everyone on the other side is talentless and evil, and draw conclusions from there.

Bannon got fired as crypt keeper and wound up working in politics. An amazing career change. Give the man his due, eh. Two most profane people he's ever met: Bannon and Trump. I'm so not surprised. We need you to do an in-depth story on Gorka. He's the third point in the most profane triangle.
