DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO POINTS
The distance between two points A(x, y) and B(x, y) is given by
AB = √(x2-x)²+(y2-y₁)².
1. The distance between the points A(x, y) and B(x2, y2) is given by AB=√(x2-x)²+(y₂-Y₁)².
2. The distance of the point P(x, y) from the origin O(0, 0) is given by
OP = √x²+ y².
TWO IMPORTANT NOTES
(i) Any point on the x-axis is of the form (x, 0).
(ii) Any point on the y-axis is of the form (0, y).
PROPERTIES OF VARIOUS TYPES OF QUADRILATERALS
A quadrilateral is a
(i) rectangle if its opposite sides are equal and the diagonals are equal.
(ii) square if all its sides are equal and the diagonals are equal.
(iii) parallelogram if its opposite sides are equal.
(iv) parallelogram but not a rectangle if its opposite sides are equal and the
diagonals are not equal..
(v) rhombus but not a square if all its sides are equal and the diagonals are
not equal.
SECTION FORMULA
DEOREM 2 (Section formula) The coordinates of the point P(x, y) which divides the line segment joining A(x, y) and B(x, y) internally in the ratio m:n are given by
x=mx2+nx1/m+n
y=my2+ny1/m+n
AREA OF A TRIANGLE
The area of a triangle ABC with vertices A(x, y), B(x, y) and C(x,y) is given by
Area(AABC)=1/2(x1 (Y₂-Y3)+X2 (Y3-Y₁) + X3 (y₁−y2)
```````````````````````````````````````
6. If the point A(x, 2) is equidistant from the points B(8, - 2) and C(2,- 2)
find the value of 3. Also, find the length of AB.
7. If the point A(0, 2) is equidistant from the points B(3, p) and C(p,5) find the value of p. Also, find the length of AB.
8. Find the coordinates of the point on x-axis which is equidistant from
the points (- 2, 5) and (2, - 3)
9. Find points on the x-axis, each of which is at a distance of 10 units from
10. Find the point on the y-axis which is equidistant from the points A(6,5)
and B(4,3).
idistant from the points A(5, 1) and B(- 1, 5)
the point A(11, - 8)
