I have to say. Pam Bondi really disappointed me on this one. She either knew full well that there was nothing new in those binders or she didn't bother to look at them before releasing them. Thank you, Matt, for covering the plight of the NY state (and other) correction officers. The local media reporting on this strike sides with the governor and the inmates. Just yesterday, a local TV station made a bid deal of interviewing two people: the wife of a National Guardsman who the governor sent to the facility and an inmate's wife. Both these women were concerned about the safety of their loved ones. No mention of the safety of the correction officers. In fact, the National Guard leaders claim that it is too dangerous for their people to work the facilities. I laugh at that. These are military personnel who are charged with keeping our country safe and it's too dangerous for them to work the facilities.

I was a mailroom supervisor at a medium security male prison for 2 years. I agree that inmates have way too many rights and just like any other occupation there are corrupt officers but far from all of them. I had to go to “the back” with the inmates and communicate with them for about 2-3 hours of my day and I felt absolutely drained from being around grown man toddlers and the evil energy for just that long. These officers work 12 and sometimes more among that evil it’s hard to explain the heaviness of being around the depravity and darkness. All this to say I respect and am grateful for COs for what they do and go through every day physically, spiritually, and mentally.
