We took a 7 hour train ride across central Europe! We went from Göttingen, Germany to Vienna, Austria! We were initially concerned with how comfortable the ride would be, BUT it was really hard to beat that price. Let us know if you prefer trains, planes, busses or driving to different areas!

Please Note: This was filmed well before the November 22, 2021 lockdown in Austria. There was no announcement of a full lockdown prior to our arrival in Austria.

I was so impressed when I visited Germany in 1980. We landed n Frankfurt and took a subway to the Banhof and boarded a train to Munich. So easy and comfortable. I would love to take a modern train. I wish they had more trains in the US.

That’s the nicest train restroom ever. I took the Amtrak Crescent years ago and the toilet flushed straight onto the tracks.

I can't believe how great Deana's german is. Ordering food would def motivate me to learn it faster.

That bacon and cheese pretzel looked delicious. I told my boss about it at work today and he said that the Germans really know how to eat. Lol, love you guys a lot.

I'm actually thinking about going back to college and getting my degree in German Studies so I can be more fluent in my German, and possibly studying a semester in Germany one day.

I would highly recommend to reserve seats in ICE trains on the weekend. Most people make a reservation in Western Germany. Düsseldorf - Cologne - Frankfurt - Mannheim - Stuttgart is very busy.

My co-worker had a story about his train ride in Europe. Your video showed me what he was talking about. Thanks. 👍

Great video. It brought back memories of my trip in December 2012 from San Diego to visit family in Würzburg. But then I took a train from Würzburg to Munich to see a friend and the Christmas markets, and from there, another train to Vienna. Vienna at Christmas is magical. Then I hopped the train from Vienna back to Frankfurt for my flight home. All of the trains were comfortable and easy to use (like you, I went 2. class). It makes me want to return.

The Hannover-Würzburg Intercity-Highspeed track was built in the 1980s parallel to the A7 motorway. Whoever has ever driven along that motorway will know what the "Kasseler Berge" are, when you have to go down into third or even second gear and watch the temperature gauge of your car in fear when you go uphill, maybe towing a caravan or boat on its trailer, or just with a family of five plus luggage for a holiday in the south or at the sea ( depending which direction you go). And then "whizz" the train passes by at close to 300 km/h, coming out of one the many tunnels along that line. It cost a fortune to built it through all that hills of Hesse, but it was worth it.

I loved taking the ICE 🚆 train from Brussels to Köln. I splurged and rode 1st class. What a delight! Returned to Amsterdam on ICE 🚆 and it was a quiet ride. Barely anyone in my coach. (November 2019). Train travel in Germany is superb! 👌

aisle seats are the best. You can't see that much through the window, but if you want to stand up, you're free to do so. And never forget the extra elbow space you have on the aisle side. Eat that, window sitters!

You can even "check in" when you found empty seats via the DB App. You just tell the App which car and which seats you are on and the train team will not check you in person as they can see on their handheld device that you have a valid ticket!
Great!

My wife & I rode the ICEs last month (we are Australian) and went first class on every trip. Absolutely loved it!! All our hotels were near the HBF. So good. Mega fun way to travel.

Cool, did that same trip in late '19 (but Vienna to Frankfurt). So many places that I wanted to get off and see. Thanks for the memories!

I have two favorite European cities: Vienna and Lisbon. I couldn’t opt for one, they both have a very different vibe, Lisbon is the indisputable world capital of nostalgia, but I also love Vienna, I’m there several times a year and it's almost a second home to me.
