IMHO Steve Hackett was such a huge but underrated part of the magic to their sound.

Ant was extraordinary in early Genesis. His playing on Trespass was outstanding. Steve fell right into step, NOT copying Ant's sounds or style, but he had the same sensibilities and talent. What transpired from there on out was truly brilliant! By Nursery Crime, they had found their niche and it only got better and better. Once Phil joined, they were a force to be reckoned with! It still brings me too many goosebumps after all of these years!

They shaped music for the upcoming decades and for that I say thank you.
1971-1974 material was ahead of its time.

When I visited London on one of my trips there, I checked out some of music related places like Charisma Records head office. I think it was on Wardour St. I walked aournd the front office and spoke to one of the staff there about the label and in particular Genesis. I asked the really knowledgeable person what the biggest selling Genesis album was up to that point. She asked me to turn around and look at the wall and there was ..And Then There Were Three. She told me this was not only their biggest seller, but the fastest seller upon release. Charisma had many artists on their label. Im certain I have not heard some of the bands even Van Der Graft Generator. She told me she saw Genesis at Sadler's Wells Theatre which is a great little venue in Islington, right near Angel Station where I stayed at the LSE dorms during the summer. I met Steve Hackett in Toronto at an in store record signing, very nice guy.

I was in a band in 1966 called 'The Epics' with drummer John Mayhew R.I.P. who preceded Phil Collins.

I still think those guys have not realized yet about how great was the music they created. They impacted me definitely. In my musical life (what means in all my life) there was a before and an after Genesis. They became the center of my musical life. In fact, my daughter's second name is Genesis.
Many thanks for this docu.

Even if I try, I can't stop loving this music and its era. I have to finally accept that I am an old grumpy man that is bound to complain, like my forefathers, about the lack of imagination of today's bands.

Genesis music, and later, Peter Gabriel's solo ventures helped shape who I am today. I grew up in the same time line as these gentlemen and truly appreciate each and every personal contributions they put forth to create what I consider the best music in my life. The grooves, rhythms, textures and beat all are so unique to this group of men. To think that as late teenagers and early 20 year olds, they created such powerful sounds with limited technology...it's truly a wonder in my eyes. Thank you each and every one of you and especially to my hero, Peter. He has provided inspiration and bliss for a huge part of my life. I am so grateful!

PC says he’s a yes for a 5-piece reunion if he can play drums, and dead-serious says he’s not interested in singing. He’s well-established as one of the biggest singers in the world when he’s saying that. Gotta love that guy.

I feel so privileged to have grown up enjoying both Peter and Phil on vocals with Genesis. Their music such a important factor in my youth. Watching this brought tears of happiness of memories past..
Today's music NOT EVEN CLOSE...

I cannot believe they "yada-yada"-ed Selling England By The Pound, the pinnacle artistic achievement by the band across its history.

I remember going to the lamb lies down on broadway concert/genesis, what a wonderful moment in time that was, seeing this brings back

It's absolutely astonishing that they wrote recorded 'Trespass' and 'Nursery Cryme' barely 20 years old. They're absolute masterpieces, and while there is definitely great music being made today, I frankly can't imagine a bunch of 20 year olds creating such epic musical compositions and, frankly, journeys, today. Not that the talent doesn't possibly exist, but such a wide array of talent in one single band is a rarity. On top of the record companies actually having the balls to release such experimental and different music, something I sincerely doubt would happen today.
