The way I put on a corset on my own is to tighten it by hand the best I can moving most of the slack to the middle of the ties at the back.. Then I loop the cords over a door handle and use my full leg strength and weight leaning forward to pull them taught. I sometimes just need help getting the back panel in place but I can put one on by myself very well now and easily as tight as that. Historically women had wall hooks to help them lace their corset without help so a door handle is a reasonable close second. I do wonder if I'll pull the hinges off some day though.
