Tried it once, I'll never do it again. I was nauseated and it was a militant yoga group that refused to let me leave the room

Ok so I am a Bikram Yogi and did this practice for 20 years and I am very Advanced in it too. I am a yoga teacher also and teach adv Raja Pranayama and all Asanas plus k sm an Ayurveda practitioner. Bikram yoga is Advanced hatha yoga not taught traditionally is true and the heat is not healthy for many reasons BUT BUT BUT this is the most healing practice If your Dosha is Pitta or Vata/Pitta, as not every yoga practice is suitable to you. Bikram yoga saved my life like many others and it’s the MOST HEALING PRACTICE out there actually. It is intense but SO ARE THE HEALING EFFECTS only after 20 min in the practice. It stops anxiety right away, panic attacks, relief from depression and balances hormones if you listen to your body and do it gently slowly consistently….let’s teach what hot yoga and Bikram really is THANK YOU ❤

In your case it's not necessarily hot yoga but absolutely breathtaking yoga 💞

In my experience the most vocal critics of hot yoga are those who have never set foot in a hot yoga room. It's definitely not for everyone, not even close, but for those of us who love it, it's a beautiful practice.

I think the best advice for a beginner of hot yoga is to pace yourself … by that I mean go slow and gradually build up to giving each asana your best effort … I have found the greatest reward is when you walk out of the class into the fresh air outside … the feeling is AmaZing 🙏

You’re not supposed to do yoga in the heat… yoga was done in the cool hours of the early day and evening in India

I love hot yoga... just started. And as others have already mentioned, it's not for everyone, but for some of us, it's very addictive. Thank you for spreading the word so others can at least try it. But they need to be warned to come prepared. 🧘‍♂️ 🕉

No it’s not I did it for many years and I can tell you that not only Bikram is way too intense for hormone balance, the heat in some rooms is way too extreme and brings issues with circulation and heart health and this will bring more health issues slowly. The rest of hot yoga is ok but again the heat is not healthy if is not the natural heat you live in your environment daily. This also upsets your immune system 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I was introduced to yoga in a hot room, so I have always gravitated toward it. After many years, I tend to avoid super-hot rooms. Just 85-90 degrees is plenty hot to be sweating profusely. Love it!

I have a condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Which affects so the connective tissue in my body. I’m very hypermobile because of it and have several underlying issues due to the increased joint flexibility. Joint dislocations is one major issue. I can’t practice hot yoga just for the risk of going too deep into poses and causing more damage to my already damaged joints. I risk further dislocations. So I stick to regular yoga and focusing on engaging my muscles and not relying on my joints.

Can you tell me how to remove the stretch marks that have formed on the body due to yoga? Do you also have stretch marks?

I like it up to a certain point- I need to have electrolytes before and after. I sweat an abnormal amount as a woman so I have to be super hydrated. I also need to make sure I’m well rested and have time to recover. There are times where I push myself and I end up on the couch drained and then binge on food if I don’t eat enough before. I might try either going earlier in the morning or late at night.

I love it but I also was warned to be careful with flexibility stuff since you can easily injure yourself as well.

I have a feeling people with sensory issues (like autistic folks, me included) would have a hard time with it. I have no desire to try because I get overwhelmed by the sensations of both sweat and heat. I also am already very flexible without it, and as a CPT and LMT-in-training I worry that a lot of people think more flexibility is always a good thing when sometimes it can become a pathology and lead to injury. Most yoga modalities balance strength training and flexibility training, but the heat tips hot yoga over to flexibility which IMO makes it a less well-rounded practice. But to be fair I would also say that about yin. If you're balancing it out with strength training and making sure you're aware of what bodily pain is best treated with strength training versus what's best treated with flexibility training, have at it. I'm gonna keep doing my nice cold, dry yin sessions though!

I will try Hot Yin Yoga this weekend. I think I couldn't do any other form of yoga in a hot environment, but I hope Yin Yoga is calm enough for not feeling bad with the hot air. I also hope the heat will help to relax :)

Hot yoga becomes boring eventually because poses are easy just the heat. I prefer your harder poses.

I only agreed to go to hot yoga classes, now can’t do yoga when it’s cold outside) it’s important that our body is trying to keep 36.6 degrees 🛰️

HY is all I’ve ever done. Just keep in mind to hydrate and have eaten properly before going in. Eating habits will definitely constrain your ability. Don’t let it get to you. Keep in mind yoga is for being better at feeling better. Take a time out and lay out if you want to.
