I remember when Al Hirt and Herb Alpert, along with Louis Armstrong played good music.

There's ONLY ONE thing wrong with this musical masterpiece: It is too short! Wish it would play on forever!

I fondly remember when "Java" (Al Hirt's version) hit the radio airwaves (ca. 1964). I was a kid growing up in Baton Rouge, just up the road from the Big Easy (New Orleans).
"Java" became a sensational HIT, and this was a time when Rock 'n Roll and the Beatles were dominating the "Top 40 Hit Parade".

I miss those days; they were memorable!

Back when this song was being played a lot on radio, my Mother kept hearing the first line of this being played over and over. Perplexed she went outside looking for the perp. And there he was! Perched on our TV antenna: A Mocking Bird singing his little heart out!

Remember this song from a Muppet Show skit...it's been stuck in my head for a week! Glad to have found the original!

Hearing the great Al Hirt (Alois Maxwell Hirt 1922-1999) playing his 1963 hit 'Java' brings back lots of memories - when I was a young woman in a brilliant, happy golden era - now sadly lost forever.
... if only there were a time-machine, I'd go back in a heart-beat ...

This evokes nothing but good memories of being a little kid in the 60s. Thanks Al!

Please never forget the formidable talent of the songwriter, the incomparable Allen Toussaint.

My Father loved music. In fact, he got to star on the cover of an LP he and his photography company made in the the 1960s. It is Spectacular Percussion by Roger King Mozian.( I am proud of that.)He loved Al Hirt and I remember him playing this great song. Such a feel good tune! Brings nice memories back. Thanks for posting it.

A few years ago I found a video on YouTube titled “79 instrumental songs everyone knows but no one knows the name of”. That’s how I found out the name of this song. Ive loved it since the days when we had great disc jockeys on the radio in Jamaica. Did not know the name until I found the video

In the 60's when I was a kid in Louisiana, this guy was an icon. He was everywhere and is an integral part of my childhood.

"Java', " which I haven't heard in at least 30 years, was one of my favourite instrumentals as a boy. In 1967, when the New Orleans Saints (for whom my cousin, Reuben Mayes, later played), entered the NFL, Hirt and fellow jazz trumpeter Pete Fountain entertained the crowd at every home game.RIP, Al and Pete, you boys were GREAT

I've got just one quick statement: this is one damn good song. And most of today's music can't compare.
