It's because India is essentially an aggregate of smaller states of different races and cultures artificially merged together by the UK colonizers. They don't even have a unified language...Also considering their caste system, it's a half baked country with so many internal conflicts not yet resolved. India's culture is so entrenched in a caste hierachy that they can't but help to look down upon each other including China. As the world's "largest democracy, " India can't stand the fact that the world's largest socialist/market economy could ever be successful. Face it, China had a whole devastating revolution to rid themselves of ancient, xenophobic, backwards ideas, hindering social and technological advancement. India is still rather stuck in their culture of sexist chauvinism, corruption, racism and elitism.
