I know this will sound crazy but I thought this up forty years ago. Imagine that all beachfront property had a five mile set back from the water except to allow beach access, Piers, Docks, Marinas, etc. Declare most of it National parkland in perpetuity. What would those areas look like today? Come on and jump on guys. I told you it might sound crazy.

It is time to restore our beaches and move all the buildings back a mile or so.

Truly never understood why building a house on a barrier island in a hurricane prone area is even legal.

Stop rebuilding if you're in the path of a hurricane. Simple.

Long, long ago a women gave interview. She either worked for FEMA or The Corps of Engineers. She stated that although the beach is a great place to visit. It's no place to live near. Any body of water affected by tidal influence is also not an area to live near.
Maybe in a few generations from now the message will be taken to heart.
Living on the coast is a very bad idea.

We moved to the Space Coast when I was 2yo and left Florida in '87. There's an inherent danger living waterfront anywhere. These storms are much more frequent and intense. Time to start really thinking about living more than 10 foot higher than sea level.

Listen to Donald Trump : "Rising waters from global warming will get you more beachfront property"
Everyone should thank this man for his intellect he shares with us every day.

So sorry for everyone, hope no lives were lost here because the damage is terrible, not sure if it was storm surge & winds or a tornado but it's grim.💜

Concrete bock and clapboard houses again a record wind and water hurricane times two. they never stood a chance. These are not "out of state retirement condos" like some would like to believe. Some of there look like military housing units ( we know how hurricane resistant military housing can be, lol)

Is this Englewood or Manasota Key across Lemon Bay from Englewood?

No building should be allowed below sea level, including low tide, high tide, storm surge, tsunamis. Keep it parkland with access to all. Taxpayers pay and repay for this mess every year and folks die uselessly defending their buildings from the ocean. End this insanity.

They wanted beach front. They got beach front and back.

And now my insurance will go up because these people want to live at sea level in a flood zone on the beach even though I have never filed a claim my entire life.

To top it off we’ve lost hundreds of beautiful shade trees.

I’ll bet they’ll learn a lot about hurricane resistance from the remnants left from Helene and Milton.
