In the mountains of Del Norte County, California is an old mercury mine. They just walked away from it at one point. There are flasks full of it. A friend who I mine with said he's seen a similar one in the CA mother lode country.

Our dump has a hazardous material day several times a year. They'll take the mercury, batteries, lithium batteries, fluorescent lights and more. I remember when science was taught in school by real teachers who would love to have that mercury for simple experiments for the kids. Thank you Mr Pete.

He who dies with the most toys WINS!… You are far ahead of all the rest of us… congratulations! LOL… Thanks for the many, many enjoyable hours of fabulous videos… first thing I do each morning in turn on UTUBE just to see if there’s a new Mr. Pete video!

Good Morning Mr. Pete... You may want to consider contacting your local fire department about the mercury. They should know how or where to dispose of hazardous materials in your community. Plus they are going to know the laws in your community regarding disposal. I myself live in Connecticut and what may be completely legal for me might violate laws in your area. Hope this helps. :)

Lots of great stuff in this one Tubalcain. That little P&W horizontal mill at Lost Creek was sweet. Love old iron especially line shaft driven equipment. Something about overhead belt drive systems just makes me smile.

In today’s video I saw the cool table you made on your drill press. Very clever 😊

Our local scrapmetal yard back in the 1980's use to buy it.

The mercury reminds me of the best cut treatments ever made: Merthiolate and Mercurichrome. Does anyone else remember them?

For the mercury, check with Johnstone supply. Illinois has several locations. The local Johnstone supply near me in Florence, SC, which sells heating and air conditioning supplies, has a recycling bin for old thermostats that contain mercury.

I definitely agree with you regarding the requirement of pecans in baked goods! That little P&W mill is really cute! I have a little Burke that I no longer use but it was my first mill and it removed metal a lot quicker and more accurately than my hack saw and files! Some people turn up their noses at smaller machines but they definitely have their place. Happy New Year!

Great video Mr Pete, I've got a 1912 pratt&Whitney lathe, I restored it in 2019 they really built things in those days...

The mad hatter's problem came from breathing fumes with mercury in them, used to shape hats. If you don't have cuts on your hands/skin, and you don't get any mercury inside your body, it's difficult to have any ill effects. The big problem in the near past was having it in thermometers, if they broke, you now had broken glass, and mercury in your mouth. Others have suggested contacting your local officials, I would suggest do one of your short temporary videos and ask if there is a viewer in your area who knows a chemist, or other person who could use some mercury. Anyone who follow Cody's Lab knows you can still buy it, because he has gallons, so I suspect there must be someone close who not only wants it, but would put it to use.
Thanks for all your good work.

Good video Mr Pete, it’s always nice to receive some gifts in the mail. There is always something cool at lost creek.

I obtained a bunch of Moore & Wright tools in a home shop I bought some years ago (a high school buddy's dad had died and he had to sell). Very good tools.
