Hi Aiglea, Thanks for your kind comments and reflections. You are right, psychodynamic therapy emphasises our childhood and it's bearing upon our present self, particularly our relationships. Being younger, we can recall earlier memories with more clarity. However, as mature individuals we may be more reflective & be able to consider issues with more perspective (having lived a lot more). So I believe that psychodynamic therapy is suitable across ages, provided there is a willingness to explore.

A very short, but clear explanation, thank you! I've been thinking for a while now to start psychodynamic therapy: I really want to get to the source of my problems, and understand, and get a better insight of how I really work and function. The 'old-fashioned' psychoanalysis could probably work too, but I've heard that the therapist has a much, much smaller role there...

But I do have a question: does age matter, since this leans heavily on the childhood?

Quite agree Johanna, that patterns tend to carry forward in life.

This kind of therapy seems that suits me the most but I would like to ask you if it can be combined with other therapy because my traumas are mostly from childhood but also lot of traumas in adult life (toxic and emotionally abusive environment duting both childhood and adulthood). Can this therapy work with both problems?

Can't imagine counseling people without using a partial psychodynamic orientation. How can you ignore the influence of childhood!
