After trying almost all of the reusable earplugs available on the market as well as custom made ones by a doctor I eventually gave up on all of them and started using the one time use foam ones. Namely Honeywell Max lite. A low expansion variation on the popular laser lite designed for prolonged use or for people with narrow ear canal. Way more comfortable than any of the ones I tried before, lighter and with better attenuation. Not going back. A box of 200 pairs cost about the same as many of these reusable ones.

I used the Alpine mushrooms at first with the „racing“ filter. They are not bad as far as noise reduction goes but my experience matches yours. Riding more than maybe 45 minutes is definitely out when wearing those. Had custom fitted ear plugs made at my local audiologist. They were about 160 Euros. One of the best investments I have made lately and to me, my hearing is definitely well worth the price and I have never looked back.

You definitely need ear plugs. Wind noise causes fatigue.

Great overview as always Andy....and thanks for the greeting (I'm an internet sensation all over again 😄). I think your ultimate solution is a great one for sound reduction at a good price. One good extra that came with my bluetooth enabled ones was a mini tube of lotion that you just put a dab in your ear and transforms the ease of twisting them in and out. Im sure any old hand lotion in a small pot would work just as well. I'm sure it'd help with yours too. Alternative is licking doesn't taste great after a ride or two 😂😂👍
