I used to listen to this song dozens of times everyday during college. I forgot how much i loved it. I have blocked this song from my memory because it represented a time when it was the peak of my mom’s abuses not just on me but on my brother and my father as well. When i heard this song the first time I wasn’t thinking about how God can change my mom. She is still abusive and selfish but at least my family has left her now. Whenever i heard this song, i thought of dying and imagining how ready i was to leave this life. I was trapped in an abusive household and i wanted to join God so badly but i was not suicidal. Years later, i am now a mom and it puzzles me how a mother can hurt her own kids who she carried for 9 months in her womb. My mother showed me what kind of mother i shouldn’t be. About 18 years since i first heard this song, i saw this movie and realized how i had the same situation as the writer of this song. Im still praying for my mom’s salvation but i don’t want to take part in her life anymore for the sake of my kids and the rest of my family.

As a person who had a rough childhood and can relate to some of the shoes he went through, It’s amazing to see drastic change within people you least expect. All those years of hardship, being lost, abandoned, and emotional hurt can turn into something good. So even though parental issues hurt and damage more than one person, especially children, love is the only thing that can heal a broken family.

This is the song God used through Christ Jesus to get my attention away from the world that was about to consume every part of me. Throughout a year of incarceration that followed after hearing this song for the 1st time, God not only revealed himself to me, He completely transformed me from a place so deep within that was completely void of love. In that year, He restored my mind, heart, and soul like nothing else could. He not only showed me what true love looks like, smells like, and feels like, He also gave me the gift of giving the very love He showered me with to others regardless of who they were and without expectations. I was a walking zombie the 1st week of my incarceration riddled with guilt and shame for what I had done and felt nothing but a very deep despair. A feeling of complete hopelessness came over me leaving me numb and unable to find a way out of what I had gotten myself into. God showed me a mercy never shown to me before and then forgiveness that I had never been given. He followed that with the deepest love I had ever felt. He delivered to me my very 1st bible through an inmate I didn't know and that's where my personal relationship with my Lord and Savior started. In that year of confinement I was set free from so many of the things, thoughts, people and past that I had allowed to rob and enslave me. My life now has a purpose and a value that it didn't have before. I can only imagine what that day will feel like when I am before Him, who has redeemed this once lost fatherless little boy. Thank you MercyMe and may our loyal and faithful Father continue to bless everything you do and touch. ☝🙏✝

I just saw this movie... and u just want to say thank you for making this movie because it's so nice to know the story behind this amazingly uplifting song... God Is Great.... God IsGood. I know this because I because on February 26 2009 I turned my will and my life over to the care of God, Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior, and he has transformed my life beyond my wildest dreams. He has delivered me from a life of addiction and alcoholism. I truly thought that I was drowning is a chemically addicted abyss. Today I am a Father, a Son an Uncle and a good honest decent person. Thank you Again for making this movie.

Wow! What a powerful movie. This true story about his life and the power of love and forgiveness is just incredible. I don't think you have found your song, your soul son he said - so true of my own life I thought. My heart had grown so cold towards God not even knowing it did. I chuckled when he said the sheer volume of the words that come our of your mouth is exhausting - because my mouth has run. Cried through a lot of this. Sure wasn't expecting such a powerful movie! I can only imagine -

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love.

Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die".
BUT, mercy said "I dont want to give them what they deserve. I don't want them to be cut off from Me. I love them despite all they have done/will do against Me. I want to give My children another chance. I want them to come home and live in My love again".

And love said "Jesus, God's Son, came down as a Man, our representative, suffering every temptation, pain and struggle we have ever faced, yet without sin. He took all our sins (past/present/ even future) to the cross and then crucified EVERY ONE on our behalf. Justice was paid on the cross so that we can be free from Hell's punishment, experience Gods mercy of forgiveness of sin and live in His love. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (turn away from our sin and pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life.

He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it.

He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through Him (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to obey His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and ask Him to help us in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, or struggling or doubtful, simply be honest and tell Him that. He is not intimidated by ANY sin or struggle you are facing. ANY. He hears and will answer. If we pray for Him to come in, regardless of the condition, then He will.
NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER.
