Brubeck was a master! Great rhythms, great time signatures, great chords. Dave Brubeck was absolutely cool!

I've been having this in my head everyday for the last...like, two years. And i'm still like, "MOAR!!!"

This used to drive my serious music students crazy when I asked them to foot shuffle to either the beat OR the rhythm. Some hilarious movements ensued. At a summer retreat I asked them to do a chain dance, kicking out one leg on the first beat. Chaos!

Recorded in May 1961, featuring Dave, Eugene Wright on bass, and Joe Morello on drums (Paul Desmond "sat out" this side, so this is essentially a "Trio" effort).

I saw Brubeck at Yale a few years ago (2005, I think), performing his "Requiem" with a live choir and orchestra. He did this song as an encore and said that it became popular as a TV theme-- in Austria, I believe! Thanks for uploading!

 Unusual 7/4 time signature-
Clap along. Some people find it harder than others.

Emma Thompson used this composition as the theme song for her 1988 BBC variety series Thompson.

No, it's 7/4. Says so in the liner notes for the album.
