Lego Generator powered by elastic bands

See my latest experiments and behind-the-scenes footage!

This is an old Lego generator concept of mine that's powered by elastic bands. It's pretty ugly with random colours, but figured I'd record a video of it in action before taking it apart.

By winding it up, you store energy in the elastic bands, which then release it when the gears are released. Magnets are suspended in a core that essentially 'floats' in place as it unwinds. And because it's floating, this allows the core to fully unwind, and then rewind itself. This allows it to continue creating short bursts of electricity over a short time. It generates enough power to light up a series of high powered LED lights. It also does a good job of banking a large spike of power in some capacitors to keep a single light lit for a few minutes.

If you'd like to see more of these, just let me know in the comments!

It is more like a battery than a generator but still very cool

Looks like an amazing build! You should try to hook it up to a battery and see how long it takes to charge it or something like that👌

Wow this is awesome! As a Lego builder myself, I know how hard and time consuming this was. This is so underrated keep up the good work

Nice! although I'm a bit confused, how does it work? (The converting of kinetic > electrical, not the lego)
