Chuck Grassley running for reelection in U.S. Senate

Chuck Grassley announced on Twitter early Friday morning he has decided to run for reelection in the 2022 U.S. Senate race.

The announcement comes after months of speculation about whether or not the 88-year-old Grassley, a Republican, would finally retire. This weekend he will meet with Iowans to go over important topics regarding communities, schools, businesses, farms and families.

While some of his fellow longtimers in Washington are calling it quits, fed up with the rightward lurch of the GOP or the inertia in Congress, Grassley has set out to show he’s thriving.

But the senator hasn’t always been an acolyte of Donald Trump. He voted, for example, to count Arizona’s and Pennsylvania’s Electoral College votes the day of the deadly Capitol riot in January.

Former Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer and former Crawford County Supervisor Dave Muhlbauer, both Democrats, have both launched campaigns to unseat the longtime incumbent.

“Serving Iowans in the United States Senate is a tremendous honor. I’m working as hard as ever for the people of Iowa and there’s more work to do. In a time of crisis and polarization, Iowa needs strong, effective leadership," Grassley said in a release. "I’m focused on serving the people of Iowa as your senator and fighting for policies that will make Iowa an even better place to raise a family and grow a business,”

Grassley has served in the U.S. Senate since 1981.

No! He needs to retire & there needs to be set term limits! He hasn't been doing right by most Iowans for many years & that's giving him the benefit of the doubt! Every political office needs to have set term limits cuz politicians get to comfortable in power & even if they start out good 9/10 they don't stay that way! There needs to be turn over so we can keep moving forward as a country & let new fresh minds have a chance! Or what's the point of an education system if nobody ever retires til they die of old age after decades in office?! Nothing new gets dealt with! Old people can have new fresh outlooks but not when they've been stuck in their ways & unwilling to change w the times! He's been stuck for decades not doing what needs done the same as the majority of those in office & it doesn't count to basically pass down their position to a child or grandchild! Keeping the same families in power is like keeping the same royal families in power & we all see how that's worked out! We're just as bad if not worse cuz we're supposed to be setting positive examples & that's just not happening anymore in most cases cuz of people like Grassely! Please bow out & retire gracefully! Grassley's life expectancy at this age is five years, which is two years less than his next senate term would last hahaha these old farts (of both parties) just need to MOVE out of the way!
